The Blue Pool (Heleleikeoha Falls or Helele'ike'oha Falls)

Direct view of Helele'ike'oha Falls

The Blue Pool (also known by its Hawaiian name as Heleleikeoha Falls or Helele'ike'oha Falls as well as Blue Angel Falls) could very well be one of the most scenically located swimming pool waterfalls in the world. It faces the ocean as it's sheltered by rocks protecting its picturesque plunge pool from the crashing waves. If there was ever a place you could take a dip and contemplate the scenery, this is it!

The falls typically is light flowing. If it hasn't rained for a while, it probably trickles. Nonetheless, the location makes it easy to forget whether the falls are flowing or not.

An Important Update About This Waterfall! (1/7/07)It has come to my attention that there are locals unhappy with the amount of attention and visitation (and litter left behind) the Blue Pool is getting. While the falls itself is on public land, access to the falls crosses over private land jointly owned by several residents. Despite controversial interpretations of the Hawaii Supreme Court ruling regarding PASH (Public Access Shoreline Hawaii), locals respectfully ask that you consider this attraction kapu (forbidden).

Personally, I think many problems can be solved (regarding traffic, litter, etc.) by having residents run a paying tour. That would at least control traffic and litter while letting locals share what makes Hawaii special while making money to pay for their trouble and any overhead expenses to support this. Perhaps that might make this place both welcoming for tourists and peaceful for residents instead of something so contentious.
