The Northwestern South Island regions is home to majestic snowy mountains and ruggedly beautiful coasts. In the heart of the snowy Southern Alps is Arthur's Pass, which features rugged terrain that made access from Christchurch to Greymouth a tremendous challenge. The completion of the Otira Viaduct, a feat of engineering, now makes access merely a convenient drive away.
With the tall snowy mountains, you can expect to find tall snow-fed waterfalls such as Devil's Punchbowl Falls.
In addition, you will find other waterfalls sprinkled about areas such as Greymouth and Lewis Pass such as Carew Creek Falls and File Mile Creek Falls.
